How Kimblade Used Crowdfunding to Find Success

Welcome back to the Funding Insider blog, where we take a deep dive into all things crowdfunding!

Today, we’re going to look at Kimblade: a windshield wipers innovator who managed to earn over 1.5 million dollars from crowdfunding alone. We’ll take a look at their record of campaigns and dissect how crowdfunding helped Kimblade pull ahead of the game.

Kimblade’s Record of Success

Kimblade first appeared on Kickstarter with their eponymous windshield wipers. These were the world’s first ever rectangular blades—an innovation that was evidently quite popular with backers. The campaign launched in Fall 2018 and managed to raise over $278,000 in funding. Impressive from a small business just getting started!

But Kimblade came back two and a half years later with their second campaign: Kimblade Nano. These new wiper blades were a significant upgrade over the original Kimblade due to the reinforced materials. And this upgrade proved to be worth it, as the campaign managed to raise over $413,000—an almost a 50% increase from their first campaign!

Since then, Kimblade has come back to Kickstarter every year or so with a new windshield wiper campaign. Their third campaign, Kimblade Space, was a re-imagining of their wipers with upgraded slip, quietness and durability. Kimblade’s fourth campaign, CarbonFit, saw a fancy carbon fiber upgrade to their already excellent windshield wipers, and Kimblade’s fifth and most recent campaign, Kimblade X, was the brand's take on a silent windshield wiper that incorporates their iconic rectangular wiper blades. Each campaign has funded within the $300,000-400,000 range, showing remarkable consistency over the last 7 years.

Crowdfunding’s Benefits for Your Brand

Kimblade has undoubtedly found quite a lot of success on Kickstarter. But finding success on Kickstarter or Indiegogo isn’t just about the money; you also have a chance to form something truly special with your backers.

The very first backers who supported Kimblade back in 2018 did so because they were impressed with the product vision and innovative spirit of the invention. These first backers took a chance on a new thing, and when Kimblade delivered with a set of high quality and revolutionary windshield wipers, backers responded with their feedback. This is the start of a long and fruitful backer and creator journey.

These first-time backers don’t just provide feedback, though. They become loyal to your brand and repeat buyers of your products. That’s one of the main reasons why creators who find success on Kickstarter don’t just launch one product; they launch several, each one building up on their previous success. That’s how Kimblade has managed to stay in the game for so long—earning trust and confidence from backers with the power of crowdfunding.

Plan Your Strategy

It’s important to keep in mind that crowdfunding isn’t a guaranteed path to success. But with the right help, you can do everything you can to maximize your chances.
